At Savanna House we merge history, comfort and good old fashioned cooking together.
The restaurant takes its name from the 550 acres of Lake County Forest Preserve that encompasses its beautiful facilities.
Savanna House means “the house on the prairie” and as you dine, take pleasure in observing nature around you.
Michael and Mary Bennett established Savanna House in 2008. It has been a lifelong dream for both my son Michael and I to own a restaurant. We enjoy our customers and invite you to join us.
Before the building became Savanna House, in the 60’s it was a restaurant named Bit of Sweden and later The Buggy Whip. Now that the restaurant has been converted for its last time, customers gather at Savanna House for a wide selection of wines, craft beers and cocktails.
At Savanna House we serve delicious and healthy home-style meals. You are greeted with warm homemade corn muffins and sweet honey cinnamon butter. All entrees are accompanied with fresh cut vegetables, a wide variety of home style sides and homemade soups. Save room for the homemade desserts including warm peach cobbler served with vanilla bean ice cream. We run daily food and drink specials for all kinds of flavors.
The Savanna House staff loves catering special events and prides themselves in taking care of your guests, friends and family. We cater all of the important family events including birthdays, graduations, rehearsal dinners, baby showers and funerals.
Savanna House is centrally located 40 miles between Milwaukee and Chicago on Illinois State Highway 41. We are within 3 miles of many Lake County tourism attractions including Six Flags, Gurnee Mills, The Golden Pyramid House, The Tempel Lipizzans, The Jelly Belly Factory and some mansions of Lake County.
